The Bands

Carling Family (Sweden)

Carling FamilyCarling Family, originally from Gothenburg, is a jazz enthusiastic family that not only are swinging authenticly, but also uniquely incorporate circus numbers in their programm. They started playing Jazz in 1983. Earlier, they played other music styles, folk music, and classical music, among others. They soon were successful and received international reputation as "Carling Family". Since 1983 they have performed in 17 countries. Already in 1984 they made several TV and radio performances, both in Sweden and in other countries and in the same year they recorded their first LP, "I lost my heart in Dixieland", at Phontastic records.

In their larger formation, the Carling Big Band, they often perform with the excellent dance troupe Harlem Hot Shots, who perform Lindy Hop, Charleston and other dances from the 20s, 30s and 40s.

At the turn of the millennium 2000 the German channel RTL II broadcasted a performance of Carling Family from Frankfurt am Main, which could be seen in many countries. The Carling Family is playing jazz that has evolved from Hot Jazz, Dixieland, Chicago, New Orleans, and Swing to Bebop and 60s Jazz. In spite of this great diversity of styles their music has a distinct personal touch with each member playing several instruments and adding other entertainment such as tap dance and acrobatics to their performances. They will not only bring you in their Bann with their music, but also with their amazing show. Max is a big circus expert and Gunhild astonishes the audience playing three trumpets at once.

The Carling Family is a must to see and hear.

Cherry Casino & The Gamblers (Berlin, Germany)

Cherry CasinoThe Band was put together in spring 2001 as a backing band for american singer/50's recording artist Rayburn Anthony. Axel Praefcke and Ike Stoye soon found the right guys to make this project happen. With Michael "Humpty" Kirscht on second lead-guitar, "Lucky" Lehmann on stand-up bass and Torsten "Bam-Boom" Peukert on drums they would try to get it going. Just a few days before the tour the whole thing was cancelled and there stood a well-rehearsed band with nothing to do...

"We didn't wanna leave it this way after all the practicing and the countless hours of rehearsing" says Ike "and somehow everything we played sounded kinda good!" Good ol' Rayburn wasn't there so we changed our set and did some new material instead. We tried that early R&B thing and BANG! there we were!

Here comes Jerry!
Cherry Casino and the Gamblers made their first public appearance in august 2002 on the famous „Brandenburg- Weekender“ in Werder/Berlin and went down very well. The Boys have built up a huge following of fans, all over Europe. Constant touring, and their dynamic live stage show has won Cherry Casino a huge legion of devoted fans. Five funny faces break the ice in less than a second every time they appear with their well blended mix of early R&B and furious Rock and Roll. In the meanwhile the recorded two fantastic albums and have been one of the headliners at the Summer Jamboree in Senigallia 2008. Especially Axels self-written songs go immediately into your blood and already feel so familiar when you hear them the first time as you would listen to an old classic.

Here's what Jerry likes ...
The band plays classic 1950's Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll with catchy lyrics and hard driving guitar/sax lead breaks and is trying to come as close as possible to the magic sounds of the era. Cherry loves T-Bone Walker,Wynonie Harris,Joe Turner and all kinds of mirrors.

Axel Praefcke - voc/lead guitar
Ike Stoye - saxophone
Lucky Lehmann - double bass
Humpty Kirscht - guitar
Torsten Peukert - drums

The Round Up Boys (Berlin, Germany)

Round Up BoysThe Round Up Boys were founded in 1995 and have developed a unique style and sound. They play classic 1950s music with forceful beats and a raging stage show.

The four cats, Michael “Humpty” Kirscht (vocal/guitar), Torsten Peukert (drums), “Lucky” Lehmann (upright bass), and Axel Praefcke (guitar) are Germany’s best known interpretation of a 1957 High School Band.

Their sound is the music of the hipsters and teenagers. It’s music about “going steady” and “making love”. It’s the big beat of the era!

From 1999 on, Berlin’s hottest Rockabilly outfit started to play in countless clubs all over Germany and on international stages all over Europe, e.g. England (Hemsby Weekender, Rockabilly Rave – together with Huelyn Duvall), tours through Sweden and Finland, Switzerland, Spain, and The Netherlands.

Besides touring through the countries and recording their own records and CDs, in 2006 they have been studio musicians for recording sessions with stars as Rayburn Anthony (USA), Charlie Gracie (USA), Hillbilly Preachers (CRO), Rockin’ Henri Smeets (NL), Jason Lee Wilson (USA) and others.

2007 promised to become an interesting year for the Round Up Boys: They have made their first USA tour.

Most of the songs they play have been composed and written by the band itself (mainly Axel Praefcke and Michael “Humpty” Kirscht). It’s hard to hear a difference between a song that was written in the 1950’s and from the band nowadays – just amazing!
