Stompy Jones is a San Francisco based sextet that was former known as "Swing Session". They are renowned for their jumpin' rhythm, wailing improvisations, hip charm, retro style, and explosive stage show. We know Stompy Jones for many years and they always have been one of our very favorite bands. Their CDs are some of the best and finest recordings known. After trying it twice before, we are very glad that it finally worked out to get them to Munich.
Each member of the band is a fabulous musician. Little David Rose's thumpin' stand-up bass, the double-shuffle drumming of Lee Beary, and the bounce piano of Scott Lawrence provide the rhythmic foundation of the band's jump style. Riffing on top is the trumpet sound of Robert Dehlinger and Erv Ervin on the saxophone. These two fellas create the fireworks of vintage Rhythm 'n' Blues. The charming Christopher Binnings' soulful vocals have become a trademark of Stompy Jones.
Little David has endeavored to recreate historic sounds of greats as Louis Jordan, Roy Milton, Joe Liggins, or T-Bone Walker, as well as, to combine these vintage elements with a contemporary sensibility, to craft the solid sound of Stompy Jones. Whether appearing at a posh supper club, concert hall, festival or cozy tavern, these journeymen of jump deliver the romping, joyous, overwhelming style of Jazz and Rhythm 'n' Blues!
If you ever had the chance to witness the bands version of "Hand Clapping" and seeing Erv wailing the saxophone you will never forget it. Starting with the dance crowd in LA it became a tradition that Erv has to play the song twice. So don't miss this band and start practicing the clapping of your hands. You will need it!
On their website you can check out and download some songs of their latest album "That's Alright". They will stick in your ears and your feet won't stop to tap anymore.

"Born To Love Her"
Close your eyes and imagine: there is Humphrey Bogart who is “swingin’ in the rain” with Edith Piaf – there is Glenn Miller playing his “Puttin’ in the Ritz”, while Fred Astaire taps in his well-known style to the Caribbean Sea – and there is Marilyn Monroe singing with Louis Armstrong his wonderful “Satchmo’s Lullaby”……
All these are beautiful souvenirs – poignant memories of the swing-era which will be performed on stage with fun and charm by Doro (upright bass), Martin (guitar), and Bernie (sax, clarinet).
The band was founded on a hot and humid summer afternoon in the Munich pedestrian zone in 1987 and since then they tour in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
They present Swing and Jazz of the 30s and 40s, but also selected music titles of the 50s until nowadays find access in their program. Sometimes nicely in the background, sometimes nippy and amused, the souvenirs present their program in clubs and pubs, at street festivals, cabaret stages, and cultural houses as well as at numerous private parties. It’s handmade music which will be presented on stage with a lot of fun and humor. The audience will be very surprised about the funny parodies of well-known jazz and entertainment stars. Bernie entertaining handling of his clarinet creates a lax atmosphere. From the first beat on, you will feel being transferred back into the real “swing-era” of the swinging thirties. After that you will be “swinging” on your way back home!
Hans-Martin Hünemörder (bandleader, guitar, vocals) has a classical education on the violoncello, and played in various Jazz and Dixieland ensembles (upright bass, cello) during his school years. During his studies he performed at the piano, guitar, and upright bass and was singing at the Munich Music Cabaret “Chapeau Claque”. After that he was educated in singing with focus on jazz. He is singer, pianist, and guitar player in various bands of the Munich scene. With the “Souvenirs” he is very appreciated as “Marilyn”.
Dr. Dorothea Hünemörder (upright bass) has learned to play the upright bass as a creative balance to her studies for veterinary medicine.
Bernhard Vaughan Rusted (clarinet, sax, vocals) grew up in Dover and London. He studied the clarinet in school. Later he toured as a street and club musician in London, Paris and Munich. He was a founding member of the Souvenirs and is very well-known and popular for his elusory real “Satchmo” sound.
Last year they thrilled the audience with their outstanding show. FunTasten: one piano - four hands - two men, Stefan Eberle & Ulli Venus from Munich.
Whether it’s a powerful Boogie or a sentimental Blues song, it’s a show for your eyes as well as your ears.
Axel Zwingenberger describes Boogie Woogie as “the hottest music that was ever invented for the piano”. The concept of the FunTasten is to developed and presented Woogie Woogie in their own unique way. Experience the thrill and see the joy they have in performing as together they fly over the 88 piano keys. KEEP SHAKIN!!
It all began in the early 80s with a Rock ’n’ Roll course in Rosenheim and the first dance steps in Munich’s legendary Popclub. Siegi was infected by this hot music and began fervently collecting records and CDs as well as dancing more and more. After a number of private Boogie parties he became (mid-80s) the house DJ” at the Rosenheim Rock ’n’ Roll Club. From 1990 he organized his own Boogie dance events, providing the requisite dance music at the same time. Since then he has been busy as a DJ at competitions and Boogie parties in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
As well as collecting records and CDs, he also moved into business with Boogie and Lindy Hop music.
Siegi’s favorites are Louis Jordan, Benny Goodmann, Artie Shaw, Nat King Cole, Lavern Baker, Ruth Brown, Roy Brown, Ray Charles, Doris Day, Ames Brothers, Indigo Swing, Swing Session (Stompy Jones) and Elvis, of course.

He was born as Wolfgang Winterl in Landshut a long time ago. Already at the age of 6 he was infected by the virus of the “Rockin’ 50s” when he got his first Elvis record from his parents. Since 1988 he worked as a DJ at many Boogie parties and contests in the south German region. Then one thing came to the other: after years of Rock’n’Roll and Boogie dancing and collecting old records, he also wanted to present this hot music to a broad audience as a DJ.
After a longer break, Mr. Rock’n’Roll is back again in his beloved Munich to stir up the 50’s. His speciality is the authentic Rockabilly, Western Swing, and Country Boogie, but he also feels at home in any other music of the 50’s. His favourite musicians are Pee Wee King, Don Woody, Faron Young, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Ella Mae Morse, Ruth Brown, Big Joe Turner, Louis Jordan, Louis Prima, Sam Butera, and of course Bill Haley.
