Balboa/Bal-Swing 1-3
Level: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Videoformat: NTSC
(plays
everywhere)
Price: 59 Euro
Balboa was very
popular among the College Kids and the sophisticated dancers in the mid
30s and is now extremely popular once again. Originally Balboa was a
closed position swing form with intricate footwork predominantly based
on 8-count patterns. But when the hot Swing music really hit the scene
some of the younger dancers like Maxie Dorf and Lolly Wise added
break-aways and swing turns to the Balboa, which nowadays is often
referred to as Bal-Swing. Balboa can be danced to any speed of music,
from slow songs at 120 beats/min. till very fast ones at 300 beats/min.
Pure Balboa is probably the easiest way to dance to fast swing music,
enjoy it, and look good.
This video
doesn’t require any experience in Balboa. You will first learn the most
typical steps and principles that form the character of Balboa. Every
step is broken down and well explained to make you feel comfortable on
the dance floor, and to have fun. Building on that foundation you will
learn more footwork variations and patterns to get a deeper insight into
Balboa. This instructional video contains 50 (!) different steps. Cool
and fancy footwork will put you in the position to play more with the
music and will make your Balboa very attractive.

Dean Collins Shim Sham
Level:
Intermediate/Advanced
Videoformat: NTSC
(plays
everywhere)
Price: 29 Euro
The Shim Sham originated as a tap dance choreographed by Leonard Reed
(1907-2004, and Willie Bryant in 1928. Intended for a show finale that
could be done by all the performers it was adopted by many dancers and
became one of the most well-known and wide-spread routines of all times.
You may be familiar with the tap version or the non-tap version that
Frankie Manning made popular teaching at many swing dance camps and
workshops all over the world. The Dean Collins version of the Shim Sham
is also a non-tap version based on the original Shim Sham with spiced up
footwork and additional steps extending the routine. Dean Collins was
the most influential Lindy Hop dancer on the West Coast and played an
essential role in bringing the New York style of Swing dancing to the
West Coast in 1938.
If you want to improve your dancing we highly recommend learning and
practicing Dean's Shim Sham routine. The steps and transitions might be
a bit tricky, but you won't improve by doing only the things that come
easily! They will break everything down so that you can be part of the
group the next time when Dean's Shim Sham is called.
Dean Collins died already in 1984, but this video includes interviews
with some of the best dancers like Leonard Reed Bart Bartolo, Bobby
Hefner, Freda Angela, Gil Bradey, Mary Collins, and Rusty Frank. Many of
them learned the routine by Dean Collins himself.

Boogie Woogie 2
NEW!!!
w/ German Subtitles!
Level:
Intermediate
Videoformat: NTSC
(plays
everywhere)
Price: 29 Euro
What is Boogie Woogie?
Boogie Woogie is a swing style which
has its roots in the European 6-count style of the 50’s Rock’n’Roll that
is similar to the US East Coast style. Boogie Woogie is famous for its
hot, smooth, and exciting footwork and the emphasis on interpretation of
the music without fixed choreography. Boogie Woogie reflects the
exuberant feeling of the rockin’ fifties with its petticoats, greasy
hair, pony tails, and cool attitude.
Today, Boogie Woogie
is danced
both socially an in competitions mainly to original music of the late
40s and 50s (e.g. Boogie Woogie, Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, Rock ‘n’ Roll,
Rockabilly). This hot and happy music lets the Boogie feet fly and the
dancers smile. Boogie Woogie is rich in unique steps and moves that have
inspired many dancers and have been adopted in many other swing styles.
Boogie Woogie 2 is
addressed to the intermediate Boogie Woogie dancers, who know their
basics, but want to learn more. This instructional video offers a lot of
material and technique to improve the dancing and to increase the dance
vocabulary.
Every step is broken down and well explained. Marcus & Bärbl emphasize
lead and follow for each step and demonstrate them to music of different
speeds. Additionally most demonstrations can be watched from a different
angle.
As a special bonus there is a Jam of top Boogie Woogie dancers and
Champions recorded at many different places around the world.

A simple Slow Slow Quick Quick is the secret of an
exciting and cool looking 6-count swing dance from the 30s and 40s: The
Shag.
Shag is easy to learn. With its hops and kicks it is a lot of fun. If
you like to have close contact to your partner and still don’t want to miss
the energy of swing than Shag is the dance for you. Mainly danced in closed
position, but also with open and separating elements, Shag can be danced
from medium to fast music.
Shag was spread all over America some years before Lindy Hop became
popular and different styles were popular in different regions. This tape
series is about the Double Time Shag that was danced a lot among the college
students, which why it is often referred to as Collegiate Shag. It should
not be confused with Carolina Shag or St. Louis Shag. Even it was a separate
dance Shag can be easily mixed with other Swing styles.
Revived in the Los Angeles Swing scene Shag made a strong comeback
since the early 90s and spread on the side of his dancing cousin the Balboa
around the World. Shag is taught again at many international dance camps and
workshops and has not lost its popularity.
